Port Cros National Park

its mission: preservation

Port-Cros National Park manages all the natural spaces on the island of Porquerolles. In 1971, faced with the threat of increasing urbanism on the island, the state purchased 1,000 acres whose management and protection was placed under the responsibility of the Port-Cros National Park in 1985.

Botany

Since 1979, the National Park has also been in charge of Porquerolles’ National Conservatory of Mediterranean Botany. The Conservatory’s mission – to carry out a full census of the local flora and natural habitats – is carried out in collaboration with a network of researchers (universities, natural science museums…) and botanists on the ground who identify and make an inventory of threatened species, constantly re-assessing and updating their current state and vulnerability.
