With 37 miles of signposted footpaths, lanes and tracks, the island’s three vineyards, four plains and long sandy beaches can only be accessed on foot or by bicycle. Porquerolles is located at the core of the Port-Cros National Park whose mission is to protect natural and cultural diversity.
Port-Cros owes its modern name to the hollow shape of its harbour. It is the smallest of the three islands – 2 miles long and 1,4 miles wide – but also the highest (194 metres) and most mountainous. The island’s past is a stormy one. For centuries, it is ransacked by pirates mooring on its coasts until French King Francis the 1st turns it into a marquisate.
Drs Gaston and André Durville, in 1931, created the Domain of Heliopolis (the city of the sun), a community celebrating a new mode of harmonious living based on nudism, self-respect, respect of others and Nature. Le Levant is a naturist paradise: it is allowed to walk naked everywhere except for a few public spaces like the harbour and the village square.

Not so long ago, we wrote an article about sea excursions… What better way on holiday than to take a boat trip around the islands ? I know, being a blogger is so difficult. I “had to ” try this seatrip in a brand new boat which take you to Port cros and Porquerolles islands the same day.
