It is from the port of Porquerolles that the Croix du Sud V boat offers you a magnificent sea trip to meet wonderful cetaceans and marine  mammals of the Mediterranean. On the menu of the day, according to the chef’s mood: dolphins, turtles, shearwaters, rorquals and other beauties offered by the big blue sea.

Pelagos Sanctuary and unique site

The coastal area of Porquerolles has the advantage of being close to a large underwater canyon deep enough for plankton to grow abundantly. No wonder then to see dolphins and other fin whales feeding there. This is why the chances of seeing dolphins are very high (even if nature remains nature, with its share of chance). In any case, the biologists and naturalists from “Découverte du Vivant” will be offering you a lecture on board, as well as microphone presentations, covering biology concepts of all the species encountered during the cruise. This sea trip is labeled “High Quality Whale Watching”, a guarantee of sustainable and respectful observation of cetaceans. In the heart of the Pelagos Sanctuary, this is an essential prerequisite to offer you a quality sea trip.

4.5 hour cruise from Porquerolles

This cruise aboard the Croix du Sud departs late morning from the port of Porquerolles. It is indeed in the morning that the weather conditions are most favorable for cetacean watching. Good weather ( that is, with the least wind and swell possible) guarantees the chance for whales and dolphins watching Good weather (that is, with the least wind and swell possible) guarantees the chance to observe whales and dolphins. More than a clear sky, it is the strength of the wind that will allow us to launch or not. In calm sea, the slightest sign (fin, back, breath) on the water surface is visible for miles. However, beyond a wind force 4, it becomes difficult to make fruitful observations with the foam.

A loggerhead turtle comes to the surface to breathe

A dolphin plays with the bow

High up on the roof to observe

The interior of the Southern Cross boat

A sunfish captured by the camera

The tail of a sperm whale as it begins its descent to the depths
