Visit the museum

Edouard Carmignac, an art collector, found this place while attending a wedding. It was love at first sight. Then, he decided to buy the old vineyard of “La Courtade “to make a welcoming place and expose his contemporary art collection. (Almost 300 works). A brand new museum (2000 m2) showcases exhibitions under the former vineyard. Visits are limited to 50 people per half-hour and offer a special moment in an idyllic nature reserve.

The collection

You can now take a close look at the private collection of American Art from the 60s to the 80s. I don’t want to tell you everything but you will meet giants’ artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Jean-Michel Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat - Fallen Angel (acrylic in 1981)

Lenin, 1986 / Mao, 1973 by Andy Warhol

The XXe and XXIe centuries are surveyed with the incisive or more contemplative visions. The collection opens up new territories ( (Zhang Huan, El Anatsui…) and the young emerging scene (Korakrit Arunanondchai, Theaster Gates …).
Ed Ruscha’s giant billboards called “Sea of Desire” gives its name to the current exhibition. The artist says he caught this expression in the air… A way to take the temperature of the world. Finally, photography and photojournalism complete this unique panorama. It is the reflection of a personal story made of encounters.

Visit the garden

The garden was designed as a “non -garden”. A place of nature in which the foundation Carmignac has worked to generate equilibrium through subtraction and protection rather than addition.
Once outside, look around and discover the gardens designed by the landscape architect Louis Benech. You’ll be able to observe a great diversity of flora and fauna. Indeed, Porquerolles is part of Port Cros National Park. The outdoor spaces are inhabited by works from specific orders or artist residencies.

The Villa Carmignac is closed to the public between november and april. Reopening in Spring. Opening hours and informations on www.fondationcarmignac.com
